The 2024 Ranji Trophy season has started, with the legends of Indian cricket taking the field. Amidst the reverence, an emerging talent from Bihar has created a stir. Vaibhav Suryavanshi made his first-class debut at the age of 14 during the Bihar vs Mumbai match at the Moinul Haq Stadium.

However, there is controversy surrounding Vaibhav’s age with conflicting reports. BCCI’s official website lists his age as 12 years, 9 months and 10 days, while ESPN Cricinfo’s entry lists his age as 12 years. An old interview reveals that Vaibhav is claiming to be 14 years old, adding a layer of uncertainty.

Despite the age debate, Vaibhav showcased his skills in the Under-19 tournament and contributed 177 runs in five matches, including two half-centuries. His impressive performance in the Vinoo Mankad Trophy 2023, scoring 393 runs in five matches, further strengthens his cricketing ability. Notably, he played a key role for Bihar Under-19 by scoring 151 and 76 against Jharkhand in the Cooch Behar Trophy.
